Sports therapy brings together the hands-on and rehabilitative work our chiropractors already use, applied to injuries that happen through sport, training or physical work.

It suits anyone whose problem is tied to how they move and load their body - you do not have to be an athlete. We assess what is actually causing the problem rather than treating the spot that hurts, then build the treatment around getting you back to the activity you want to return to.

What a Session Involves

Treatment typically combines soft tissue therapy to release the muscular tension sitting behind a joint problem, joint adjustment where it is needed, and sports taping where feedback on posture or movement would help.

Sports Taping

If you have ever watched elite athletes you will have noticed the brightly coloured tape on their knees or elbows. Contrary to popular belief it is not there to stabilise the joint - it is applied to help you recognise abnormal postures or movements in it.

Take a patient with knee pain. Taped correctly, any abnormal movement of the knee produces a slight pull from the tape, which allows them to alter the movement pattern themselves. The same works for a desk worker who finds it hard to hold a good posture all day: the stretch they feel as they begin to slump is a remarkably effective reminder to sit up.

In other words the tape is a reminder of the correct position, which aids recovery by keeping joints out of positions of excess stress. It is not only for athletes.

How Treatment Works

No GP referral, no obligation, and care built around what matters to you.

A treatment room at the clinic
  1. Book Directly

You do not need a referral from your GP. Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession in the UK, so you can come straight to us - including evening and Saturday appointments.

  2. Your First Consultation

We take your full medical history and examine you properly. Nothing is assumed from the spot that hurts, because the place you feel pain is rarely the place it starts.

  3. A Diagnosis in Plain English

We explain what we have found and what is causing it, then recommend the most appropriate course of care for your symptoms, lifestyle and goals.

Preventing It Happening Again

At our Burton-on-Trent and Derby clinics we believe prevention is better than the cure. Supporting you through your recovery is only half the job - the other half is actively working with you to minimise the chance of the same injury recurring.

Every patient we treat receives a personalised rehabilitation plan. It sets out the specific exercises prescribed, how often to perform them, and where relevant the postural advice to go alongside them.

You do not have to remember any of it. The plan can be printed out by our reception staff or emailed to your personal address.

Questions we get asked

How long will it take for me to recover?

Recovery timelines vary depending on a number of factors. We take the time to understand your symptoms, lifestyle and goals before recommending the most appropriate course of care.

What is an adjustment?

An adjustment, also known as manipulation, is a specific technique used by chiropractors to improve the function of joints in the body and the nervous system. Misaligned joints cause stiffness, inflammation and pain; an adjustment realigns them so they can function properly.

Is chiropractic treatment ongoing?

We encourage maintenance visits to prevent problems recurring, and use postural advice and rehabilitation programmes as self-care tools.
