Deep Tissue Massage
Introduction To Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a specific type of therapeutic massage that focuses on targeting the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues in the body. It uses intense pressure and firm strokes to release chronic muscle tension, adhesions (knots), and areas of tightness or stiffness.
What Happens During Deep Tissue Massage
During a deep tissue massage, the massage therapist applies slow, deliberate strokes using their fingers, thumbs, hands, elbows, or forearms. They may also use their body weight to apply pressure, particularly in areas that require deeper work. The pressure is typically more intense than in other forms of massage, but it should still be within the client’s comfort level.
The primary goal of deep tissue massage is to break up adhesions and realign deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. This can help improve blood flow, reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and restore normal movement and function. Deep tissue massage is often sought by individuals with chronic pain, injuries, or restricted mobility.
